What is B cell cloning?
The process of immune B cell maturation involves the transformation of undifferentiated B cells into B cells that secrete specific antibodies. Differentiation and activation of B cells occur most rapidly under the regulation of T cells after the antigen-presenting cells in the reticuloendothelial system are exposed to antigens, and are closely intertwined with affinity maturation. Priority is given to the proliferation and maturation of B cells that have the strongest response to the antigen. This process is called clonal selection. In lymphocytic tumor diseases such as multiple myeloma and lymphoma, as well as other diseases, a single B cell clone may be proliferated in large numbers. Overproduction of antibodies can be measured by measuring serum protein electrophoresis test or peripheral blood flow.
